As parents, when do you think is the best time to talk to your kids about the birds and the bees? My SIL shared her concerns with me about the whole thing. She has a 15 year old daughter (turning 16 next month). Though they are closely bonded, there are times that they argue over pity things which to her is a sign of her kid being independent. I may never know the feeling because I am not a mother myself but I can sense Jody’s fear. Fear over what, I dunno. The subject is one thing that worries her. Hannah is at that age now where she wants to try almost anything. She’s a good kid, alright. But still, doors my open to a lot of possibilities when she goes to college. No mom, no family, no nothing. She will be out there to see the world without her mom on the side. That alone scares the daylights out of Jody. No matter how hard the circumstances are, she has to let go. She can only do so much for her daughter. Before she cuts the apron strings though, Jody wants to talk to her about the birds and the bees but she’s worried that she may not like it. You know, we sometimes rub people the wrong way. And Hannah is way beyond her years. One of the smartest kids i’ve ever laid eyes on. Whenever I tease her about going out on a date, she rolls her eyes at me. One time we got into a conversation about something and she won’t back down! I lived long enough to tell her what I think is right but to her, there’s only one way. Her way and there’s no changing it period. So I told Jody not to worry about things that she doesn’t have any control over. Instead, spend as much time with Hannah. That’s all a mother can do. Raise her child and let them go when the time comes. It’s easier said than done, I know. But we don’t have a choice, do we?
